Before the events of Appleseed, Deunan, a human woman and former SWAT officer, along with her combat-cyborg lover, Briareos, arrive in war-torn New York City. The city’s mayor is a dapper but delusional cyborg, preparing for the UFO invasion he’s convinced is right around the corner. Briareos’s powerful abilities earn the pair refuge, but there are few human comforts to be found in a city catered to cyborgs. After the couple parts ways, the mayor’s nightmare takes a turn for the worse. Deunan’s group of outcast humans may be just the extra manpower the mayor needs can the two factions put aside their differences in time to save the world?

Released in 1997 in three parts in issues 3-4, 5-6 and 7 of Weekly Shonen Jump. Tokimecha was one of Akira Toriyama's post-DB work. The story follows a young girl by the name of Tai who manages to create a "Tokimecha", a machine that allows her to travel back in time where she meets a young caveboy by the name of Muu. Wacky hijinx quickly ensues when this girl of the modern age learns that life in the stone age can be savage and terrifying.

Set before Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, The story follows the Titans Test Team, Black Otter Team, on their mission to test new mobile suits for the Titans. It begins with Eliard Hunter, an Earth Federation mobile suit pilot being assigned to the Titans and transferring to the Aswan, an Alexandria class carrier. There he meets Carl Matsubara, another new Titans recruit, Audrey April a skilled pilot and chief of test operations and data gathering, and Wes Murphy, a veteran of the One Year War and the Delaz Conflict. The Black Otter team doesn't just carry out test runs, it also participates in real combat missions against Zeon Remnants and later, against AEUG.

Universal Century 0123. In the midst of doing simulations, pilots Tokio and Kevin Forrest encounter an XM-01 Den'an Zon Mobile Suit running tests for the nearby Crossbone Vanguard. In order to preserve their secrecy, the Crossbone forces attack the Anaheim test ship Bladewood.They expect an easy victory, but are repulsed by the Bladewood's mobile suits. In order to enact repairs from the damage they sustained at the hands of the Crossbone Vanguard, the Bladewood enters a nearby abandoned space colony in the Zebra Zone. Inside the colony Iris, Tokio and Kevin are attacked by a Geara Doga. They successfully capture the machine and find the pilot to be a young girl by the name of Layla Lagiorr. After initially remaining silent she has an emotional outburst in which she explains that there are Zeon Remnants living in the colony and that six years ago the Federation came and slaughtered most of them.Confused by her story the Bladewood's crew decide to attempt to contact the Zeon Remnants and attempt to ascertain what is going on. They do so and discover the harsh reality of Federation forces that relishes killing the remnants of Zeon in a way similar to the Titans. Meanwhile the Ra Cailum class ESFS starship Ajax arrives at the colony in order to "aid in repairs" and transfer personnel under the command of Baz Galemson . Together the Zeon Remnants and the crew of the Bladewood realize that the situation surrounding them is not as it seems. Eventually, it is revealed that the crew of the Ajax knew of the existence of the Crossbone Vanguard and requested their help in "killing 2 birds with 1 stone", namely a group of Zeon refugees and the Bladewood crew. In desperation, Tokio steals the RX-99 Neo Gundam Unit 2 and joins forces with Layla to take down the corrupt Baz and the Ajax.+

Published in 1997 in an issue of Weekly Shonen Jump for the "Jump Readers' Cup", this manga tells the story of two young demons named Bubul and Purupuru who venture outside of their village to the human world to make snowmen. During this activity, they hear an approaching car and quickly check it out which leads into hijnx. This manga won the award that year, marking the first time Toriyama won it since his 1981 one-shot "Pola & Roid" and its demon world notably has several concepts that would be reused in Cowa, one of his single-volume length tales.

One year after the failure of his first manga, Awawa World, Toriyama once again tried his hand at manga creation for the Monthly Young Jump award and crafted Mysterious Rain Jack, a one-shot mystery comedy that features an unnamed detective and his bumbling inspector ally who try to crack the case of a string of mysterious thefts that revolve around various items such as sweets and Cola. The story notably features character designs and scenarios that would later find their way into his most popular work, Dr. Slump. In particular, the lead detective's design would eventually be reused for Kurikinton Soramame and there's an appearance by an ogre who would later become Thunder Ogre Goronbo. The work was unfortunately rejected which was in large part due to the usage of several designs lifted straight from the space opera film Star Wars. Despite this however, Kazuhiko Torishima, who would later become Toriyama's editor, contacted him with words of encouragement that kept him going until he eventually found success. Like Awawa World, this manga would be republished in two parts in the "Bird Land Press" fanclub newsletter and would have its master materials brought out for display during a roaming art exhibition in the 1990s that was dedicated entirely to Toriyama's work. Unfortunately it along with Awawa World had its master materials stolen and when coupled with the use of copyrighted designs? This means an official rerelease is highly unlikely.
