Retro BL is a collection of yaoi one-shots, with each story exploring a historical setting. Taishou romance, unfastened hakama, love and unnoticed postwar fraternity... A BL of disheveled men in a tainted, bewitching world. 1. Hako no Naka no Ittosei (The First Star In The Box) – Shimaji Mayuzumi takes in Saitou, a struggling novelist. Shocked at Saitou's frivolity with money, as well as his scandalous behavior—which Saitou claims to be essential to his writing—Mayuzumi becomes a convenient partner to satisfy Saitou's physical desires. However, when marriage is put on the table for Mayuzumi, the hero of Saitou's novel cannot make up his mind. 2. Himegoto Renbo (Secret Love) – Tokishiba 3. Kusuri mo Sugireba Koi to Naru (Too Much Medicine Turns To Love) – Haruta Tao is a live-in apprentice to the owner of a medicine shop. His teacher often brings other men back with him late at night, and Tao has just about had enough of his continual fooling around. 4. Haru ni Shitataru (Dripping Into spring) – Yukimichi Ouji A man stumbles across a mysterious shop that sells all manner of crystals and precious stones. Buying a beautiful stone named "Powder Snow," he is warned not to allow it any warmth—that night, a beautiful man appears in his home. 6. Koi no 100man-kai no KO (One Million Knockouts Of Love) – Mushiba 7. Ano Midnight (That Midnight) – Syundei While on a date with his girlfriend, Jun is reminded of why he hates heights so much. His mind is flooded with memories of Micchan, the male prostitute he had once been inexplicably drawn to. 8. Akame no Niekami no Akari (The Red-eyed Offering, Akari) – Hareya Umako "Meat container," "Caretaker," and "Slut"—these are the only names he has been called since coming to the Tokoyoda household. Found as a child, he was given to the Guardian Deity as an offering; every night he is to submit his body as comfort to the god. The telltale sign of his role is the color of his eyes, a symbol showing he has joined his body with the Guardian Deity, and the members of the house ostracize him due to his crimson gaze. They know he is nearing death, for the redder his eyes become, the weaker he will grow.

He can’t seem to get a job, has little money, is still a virgin and is giving up on his dream. Sitting alone on a swan boat in a pond next to a shrine, he holds a lottery ticket thinking this is the only way his dream may come true. But the wind blows it away and he falls into the pond, thereupon seeing a beautiful mermaid! Manato ends up going back to the pond and after the mermaid decided not to kill him since he gave her food, she tells him about her dream to become human and how she wants to find love (she collects coins and throws them to a shrine in order for her wish to come true). Manato decides he doesn’t want to get involved anymore because he has his own worries, but after another bad day he goes back to the pond. She finds him again and after listening to his complaints, she decides to give him all her saved up coins in order for his wish to come true. She suddenly turns into bubbles and disappears. Confused and upset, Manato hears a strange voice and a god from the shrine comes to say that she will take the coins and grant him a wish. He decides to use his wish to bring back the mermaid as a human. His wish comes true and he sees the mermaid back as a human, but she’s a guy! What will happen in this crazy love comedy!?
